Our stones

Rock painting is one of the oldest surviving forms of human expression - now known as pictographs.

Throughout the Great Plains there are many Indian pictures painted onto rocks. You can still see these today in caves, rock shelters or exposed rock surfaces where the images are partly protected from weathering.

Using wet pigments to paint, these images are understood and valued as a spiritual or social expression of the human condition.

Each image represents some of these values:

The Beaver

Symbolic of ingenious determination, an
attitude of commitment and never giving up.

The Bear Claw

The bear was the chief of all animals. Its claw
represents power, fearlessness and healing.

The Turtle

Representing perseverance and long life.

The Rabbit

This one is obvious! A symbol of energetic fertility,
where new life is celebrated.

The Mountain Sheep

Symbolising the power of the mind and imagination.
Using these powers to seek out new adventures.
